The City Union Bank Limited is commenced as a limited company on 31 October 1904. At the commencing stage, the bank preferred to be as a regional bank in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The bank first branch was opened at Mannargudi on 24 January 1930. In 1965, two banks- " City Forward Bank Limited" and " The Union Bank Limited" amalgamated under the amalgamation scheme. The bank name was changed to 'Kumbakonam City Union Bank Limited'. Subsequently, the bank branches were spread across different states of India, resulted in the bank name was changed to City Union Bank Limited to satisfy the national image with effect from December 1987. The MD & CEO of the bank is Dr. N. Kamakodi.
Till November 2017 the bank has 600+ branches using TCS BaNCS software and 1526+ ATMs across the country. The bank also offers a suite of technological services like online banking, Self-service kiosks, Mobile banking, Bulk note acceptors and Point of sales etc.
